Don’t be afraid of selling your home around Christmas! As you may know, it may be more difficult to sell during the traditional housing market ‘slow’ months of December and early January, with fewer active buyers due to a widespread family and part focus, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

We’ve put together our top tips on how to sell your home during this festive period…

1.Keep your Christmas decorating inline with the style of your property. Keeping in style means your decorations become part of the house rather than competing with or over-shadowing it

2. Less is more. Keep to one colour of tinsel and baubles that complements your existing colour scheme for a stylish look and try not to go overboard with the amount of decorating you do.

3. It’s important that you try to keep your Christmas decorating to one room in the house, typically the living room, this will minimise the effect while still allowing you to indulge your own taste.

4. Make sure your Christmas tree isn’t too big for the room – as an oversized tree will make your room seem smaller than it is. Size matters with rooms, so ensure that you scale back with your tree size to complement and enhance your room instead of overcrowding it. The last thing you want is the potential buyers having to squeeze past the tree to get to the window or the next room.

5. Remember all the extra things we tend to have in our house over December! These might make the house look over cluttered so make sure that it’s all tidy and put away before any viewings.

6. If you think you might go overboard with the Christmas decorating, then we recommend staying off the market until the new year. No viewings may be better than bad viewings and you can start your marketing again once Christmas is over.
