It’s never too early to start thinking about how to keep the little ones entertained during the time they’re not at school. You certainly don’t have to travel far to find more than enough activities to fill a whole day!

Here are some fun things to do with the kids in and around the Reading area…

Reading Museum

The museum has been showcasing award-winning displays since 1883 and has a national reputation for its hands-on learning experiences. It is open from 10am – 4pm Tuesday to Saturday and admission is free.

Thames Canoe Hire

You can rent out boats for half a day, a day, a weekend or a week with prices starting from £25. The centre can suggest routes along the Thames and places to stop off for a bite to eat or drink.


This is an adventure park with role play, video games room and sports arena for children aged one to 16. Prices are determined on age, how long you stay and the time of day, but start from just £1 for babies.

Dinton Pastures Country Park

More than 335 acres of parkland open daily throughout the year. There are a variety of habitats including seven lakes, two rivers and a children’s play park. The activity centre also offers youngsters the chance to hire a boat, Segway or try disc golf.

Caversham Court Gardens

The friends of Caversham Court Gardens hold a series of events throughout the year, in the lovely walled garden. Which is open from 8am until dusk every day except Christmas Day.

Feathers and Fur Falconry Centre

Unique experiences with amazing birds of prey! For children there is a junior owl hour for £15 per child, as well as a four-hour junior falconry day for £60.

Museum of Berkshire Aviation

With more than 20 educational exhibitions and ties with the national curriculum, this museum on the historic site of Woodley Airfield has lots to teach children. It’s open from 10:30am – 5pm at weekends.


A revolving dry-slope course gives a completely different skiing and snowboarding experience. Prices start from £28 for children.

Lockey Farm

A traditional farm! The animals roam free, so take a walk around the park to see pigs, cattle, sheep and horses. There’s also a play area for children and crazy golf on site.

Monkey Mates

A children’s indoor and outdoor activity centre open from 9:30am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sunday’s.
